Electric Ranges/ Ovens
Electric ranges, ovens and come in a variety of styles but the basic components
are similar on most units. While you may be able to successfully handle a number
of repairs yourself, others should be left to professionals.
Ranges feature cooking surfaces or flat heating elements on the top of the unit
with an oven underneath that usually has a broiler feature. Ovens and broilers require
that the oven selector switch AND the temperature control are both set. Cooktops
are cooking surfaces without ovens and are usually installed directly onto counter
tops. Radiant heat cooktops are a newer form of heating and are normally a radiant
heating element under a glass composite top. Built-in ovens are usually wall mounted
and may offer double ovens or oven and microwave combinations.
Dryer
A dryer's drying time is largely related to the flow of air through the machine
and the condition of the venting hose. If air is impeded in its pathway out of the
dryer, or if there is a blockage in the venting hose, it could reduce the rate at
which clothes are drying in your dryer.
Your dryer's lint filter should be cleaned after each and every use. If too much
lint accumulates, the dryer's drying time could be significantly increased.
Refrigerators
The best way to prolong the life of a refrigerator is to clean the condenser coils
at least once a year. It is recommended to clean condenser coils on certain types
of refrigerators, such as side-by-side and built-in models, at least twice a year.
A noisy refrigerator could be caused by an unlevel appliance, the drain pan, the
condenser or evaporator fans or the compressor mounts. Refrigerators and freezers
whose temperatures need adjusting may have problems with temperature settings or
controls, door seals or switches, defrost heater or timer, clogged drain tubes or
a malfunctioning evaporator fan.
Washer
A hard reset can resolve most washing machine error codes. Turn the power off and
then on again; if the error code is still displayed, make a repair appointment.
To prevent mildew odors in washer leave the washer door slightly open when not in
use.
In order to prevent draining problems by making sure your washer hoses aren’t kinked.
Pushing your washing machine up against the wall can crush the hoses, so be sure
to leave some space between the washer and wall!
Water Heater
Residential water heating units range in size from 2 1/2 gallon to 120 gallons.
Most common are electric and gas.
Gas units are popular among larger families because of their quick recovery. Operating
cost of a gas unit depends on the area you live in and time of year.
Heat pump water heaters pull hot air from the surrounding area and use it to heat
the water. The unit will then exhaust cool air back into the room, unless its vented
outside.
Tank less, also called "on demand" or "Instant" water heaters have become very popular
over the last several years. Unlike a storage or tank-type water heater, tank less
units only heat water when you need it.
Aircondition
Since the failure of an air conditioner to turn on, loss of air conditioner cooling
capacity, reduced air conditioning output temperatures, loss of cool air supply,
or even loss of air flow entirely can be due to a variety of problems with one or
more components of an air conditioner or air conditioning system.
